STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: The arrangements for the smooth and successful conduct of annual Red cross Mela scheduled on December 7 was reviewed by the District Development Commissioner, ,Mohammad Aijaz Asad here at a meeting. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Sher Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Mohd Ashraf, Assistant Commissioner Development Sushil Khajuria,Executive Engineer PWD Rajouri Mohammad Zubair, Executive Engineer PDD Rajouri Munshi khan,District Social welfare officer Mohd Naseeb, tehsildar Rajouri Sheraz Chowhan, Block development officers,Child Development project officers and other concerned officers. The DDC said that the main aim of organising Red cross mela is to create awareness among the common masses regarding Red Cross Society and generate funds for the welfare activities of the society. He further informed that the funds generated would be used for giving financial assistance to poor and treatment of poor patients. The DDC stressed on greater involvement of social organizations and youth in extending service to the downtrodden and those facing distress due to manmade or natural calamities besides providing services to destitute, orphans and needy people. He said that it is the social responsibility of both administration and public both to raise funds for Red cross society so that the poor and needy people could be provided relief. He stressed that the objective of the Mela is to highlight the fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement which include humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. The DDC also advised the officers to take part in philanthropic activities. He informed that District Red cross society is planning for installing hunger refrigerators at the prominent places with the aim that nobody go to bed hungry.
