2,63,620 applications of old age pension pending
STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: A Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Sindhu Sharma on Thursday directed Social Welfare Department (SWD) to verify all the applications which are pending with the department at different levels for grant of pension under the Old Age Pension Scheme and disburse the benefits as per scheme to those applicants whose claims are found to be genuine. The court directions came in a petition filed by Viklang Chattra Trust seeking better care of old age home. After hearing Advocate Summit Nayyar for the petitioner whereas Senior Additional Advocate General (Sr AAG) H.A Siddqui with Deputy Advocate General Vishal Bharti for the State, the court observed that as per SWD’s compliance report dated April 10, 2019, 2,63,620 applications were pending with the Department of Social Welfare under aforesaid scheme. It has been stated in the compliance report that due to large number of applications, scrutiny of the record of applicants is required to weed out bogus claims and also ensure payment to the beneficiaries through banking channels. In this regard, some time was also sought by the department.
