JAMMU: The hunger strike by contractual lecturers entered 61st day on Saturday. Angry over the “indifference” of both the State Government and Education Minister towards their demand, the protesting lecturers held a strong protest at Exhibition Ground near Press Club Jammu.
Protesting contractual lecturers burnt their degrees as a mark of protest against the lack of jobs.
“These degrees could not secure jobs and hence were of little use to them,” said Arun Bakshi, President of All J and K Contractual Lecturers (10+2) Forum.
Speaking on the occasion, Balvinder Kour, Chairperson of the Executive Body of Association, said, “We are highly qualified people having degrees of PG, M.Ed., M.Phill. Ph D and government is paying no attention towards our grievances after the passage of 60 days.”
Zabir Hussain Shah, Vice President said “We have decided to sit on hunger strike till some concrete result comes from government,” Yog Raj, Mukesh Raina, Tripta Sharma and Shilpa Raina sat on chain hunger strike.
