KATHUA/UDHAMPUR: District Congress Committee, Kathua staged a protest against the hike in fuel prices across the country. The protest was part of Bharat Bandh which was organised across India against constantly rising fuel prices which has affecting the common people very badly.
Led by Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, President District Congress Committee, Kathua and Subhash Gupta, Ex-MLC, the activists assembled at Dayalachak and blocked National Highway at Dayalachak. They also burned the effigy of Narendra Modi government as it has failed to control the price rise.
Manohar Lal said that during the UPA Government the crude oil prices were relatively high but still the Congress Government provided fuel at a lower cost than the present cost.
“The Modi government is looting the common man by levying high taxes on the petrol and diesel. He said lakhs of crores of rupees looted from common man are being used for the advertisement campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Mod.
Peaceful Bandh was observed in Udhampur to mark resentment against the BJP led government for consistently increasing fuel prices in the country.
All shops and business establishment remained closed partially in Udhampur and also on the outskirt. The protestor disrupted the traffic movement at some places. They lambasted the BJP Government at the Centre for its failure to control fuel prices.
Congress workers led by PCC Chief Spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma (EX-MLC) staged protest here and disrupted traffic on National Highway at Sunderbani.
The Congress workers raised slogans against Modi government over the issue of unprecedented hike of petroleum products during the past four years causing great hardships to poor people.
While addressing protesters, Sharma said that petrol has become an indispensable part of our day-to-day life, and we can’t imagine our life without it.

“But the petrol prices are sky rocketing and it has eventually affected each and everything that we use in our day to day life. Poor people are already working hard to earn square meal a day and this hike has definitely paralysed these already-burdened people. Within four and half years petrol price has increased infinite times and is still increasing.
It is nothing but adding fuel to the fire. Petrol hike directly or indirectly affects all the major sectors like transportation, textiles, auto, FMCG etc, for manufacturing and transportation.
This has affected the prices of daily essential commodities which are transported on a daily basis. Banking sector is also expected to suffer due to high inflation level. Increase in fuel price has also increased in food price. This has a more severe impact on poor people because poor households spend more than half of their income on food and only a tenth on fuel. It is a chain reaction once started will affect all,” Sharma added. “The Finance Minister’s statement on price hike of petrol, diesel in which he comments that one can spend Rs 10-15 lakh for purchasing of car than why not he can spend on petrol, but it is unfortunate that the Finance Minister of the country does not understand that the community that suffers the most is the common people or Aam Aadmi, not the rich people,” Ravinder said. “Monstrous taxes being levied by the Modi government have resulted in the skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices. Modi Government has already profited by over Rs 11 lakh crore from draconian taxes on fuel,” Manjeet Singh said in a protest demonstration against BJP. He said petrol and diesel prices were at an all-time high and the common people, the middle class, the farmers, the transporters and small and medium businesses were bearing the pain.

“People of India will not forgive and forget the Modi government for the fuel loot and give a befitting reply to the BJP in the forthcoming elections,” he said adding the Prime Minister and his government have refused to act to ameliorate the agony and anguish of the common people.
Urging people to teach BJP a lesson in the forthcoming elections, Manjeet singh stressed that only Congress party can give a people friendly and development centric Government in Jammu Kashmir.
