STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Chandigarh University (CU) on Wednesday announced academic scholarships worth Rs 10 crore, which will be offered through an All India Scholarship based Entrance Test, Chandigarh University Scholarship and Admission Test (CU-SAT), that is currently being conducted online across 19 States. Briefing media persons here, Dr R S Bawa, Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University, informed that the All India Entrance Test would offer scholarships to more than 800 students in more than 50 under-Graduate and MBA programme offered at Chandigarh University. In addition, the CU has offered 10 per cent academic scholarship for wards of school teachers and university/college professors of J&K, as a mark of respect for their contribution towards building a strong nation. While the University has continued five per cent seats reservation in every course for wards of serving/martyred defense personals, he said, adding that the University will offers academic scholarship upto 25 per cent for wards of military and para-military forces who will be seeking admission in various courses offered by the University. The Vice-Chancellor informed that currently more than 1,900 students from different parts of J&K are studying at Chandigarh University, including more than 1200 students only from Jammu region. “The University has a regional office cum counseling center in Jammu and more than 3,000 students from different parts of the State have taken career guidance from our team of professional career experts, which shows that students from the region are well informed about the changing industry expectations and skills that are now available in market,” Dr Bawa added. “Students from Jammu region have shown brilliant performance in academics and campus placements 2018,” Dr Bawa informed. More than 350 students of Engineering, Management, Mass-Communication, Animation, Bio-Technology, Law and Hotel Management from Jammu & Kashmir have managed to bag 410 offer letters from top MNCs like Microsoft, IBM, Google, Amazon, Wipro, Cognizant, Bank of America and others during campus placements. There are more than 60 students from the region who have been selected by multiple companies during campus placements, he said. Vice-Chancellor further informed that J&K students are doing excellent work in the field of research, innovation and entrepreneurship. In the field of research, out of total 390 patents filed during last 3 years by students and faculty of Chandigarh University, 16 patents have been filed by students from J&K, he said, adding that there has been eight new start-ups by students of Jammu & Kashmir at Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator (CU-TBI), which are running successfully, hence showing the trait that students from the State have the passion to be job creator rather than a job seeker.
