STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: BJP senior leader and MLC Ramesh Arora (Advocate) on Saturday informed that Chajja competition under the banner of Dogra Warrior Manch will be organised on the occasion of Lohri festival i.e, January 13, 2019. Addressing media persons here, Arora said that the City of Temples was established on finding a memorable scene that ‘Sher and Bakri’ i.e, lion and goat were drinking water from the same pond by the then Maharaja Jamboo Louchan. “It was named as Jammu after the name of Jamboo Louchan. A city of peace and good traditions and remained so for centuries. The culture developed in this region was known as Dogra culture. People were very sensitive to human life with human heart and have great respected human values,” said Arora. Arora further said that people were so humble and accommodating to all irrespective of their affiliations due to great deep rooted respect in the minds for human values. “They accommodated refugees from Pakistan, PoK, war refugees and ultimately all people who migrated from Kashmir due to ongoing terrorism. Knowingly that it will affect their value of land property and also shared jobs meant for the people of this region,” he said. Arora further said that with the passage of time Jammu people are finding themselves in trouble because of non-availability of jobs for them in private and government sector, due to hike in land cost. Not only this, they have lost their culture and traditions which was full of nationalism, he added. “On Lohri festival, revival of tradition of Chajja Parampara is being organised which will start from historical place of Mubarak Mandi and after passing through Chowk Chabutra, Jain Bazaar, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Kanak Mandi and Rajinder Bazaar will culminate at Raghunath Temple, Jammu,” he said. “Chajja competition winner will be awarded and first, second and third will get an award of Rs 31,000; 21,000 and 11,000 respectively. Harran tradition will also be reflected and due honour will also be given to school participants. It is an attempt to revive the basic spirit and culture because without its revival survival of Dogra with dignity and honour is at stake,” he said. “All the people are requested to join at 10:00 AM at Mubarak Mandi. The function will start in presence of Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Commissioner Jammu,” he informed.
