STATE TIMES NEWS LEH: The Chairman & Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh, Gyal P Wangyal convened a meeting of district officers and stakeholders to take stock of preparations made for the proposed visit of Union Textile Minister, Smirti Irani to Leh on 2nd August. Necessary preparations for according a warm reception to the expedition team of bikers, who are coming to Ladakh via Manali with a promotional campaign on Pashmina and propagation of its value, was also discussed during the meeting. While addressing officers, the CEC said that the main purpose of the meeting is to seek suggestions from the concerned officers and stakeholders in devising a well-thought programme, so that the Union Minister for Textiles can have a clear overview of legitimate need of the region, especially in the field of Pashmina, handicrafts and handlooms etc, during her brief visit to Leh. Gyal said that the Textile Minister’s tour could be more meaningful, if she would have a field-visit to a pastoral area in Changthang. The CEC said that final touch to the programme by assigning responsibility to different departments shall be given after receiving confirmation of her tour. Executive Councilor Education and Sheep Husbandry, Konchok Stanzin felt the need of taking maximum advantage from the visit of Union Minister by taking up important projects such as procurement of Rs 20 crore Pashmina De-hairing plant, promotional projects of handicrafts and handlooms sectors, funding for skill development of artisan fraternity and value addition of pashmina and wool products etc. On the occasion, Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr Niyas highlighted various points, regarding the department, which can be taken up with the Union Minister during her visit to Leh. The suggestions concerning the tour of Union Textile Minister put forth on the occasion included creation of a pastoral nomadic village at reception venue in case her visit to Changthang is not matured, installation of stalls by looms of Ladakh, Handicrafts and Handlooms Department, visit of Pashmina de-hairing plant, interaction with nomads, holding of cultural programmes etc. The Addl DC Leh, Sachin Kumar; Director DIHAR, Dr Chaurasia and other concerned officers and stakeholders also attended the meeting.
