STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Expressing grave concern on absence of accountability policy in the State besides increasing corruption in Governor’s administration, the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu on Tuesday urged the Governor for taking immediate necessary measures to resolve various long pending issues failing which the Chamber would be forced to adopt the path of agitation. While addressing media, President CCI, Rakesh Gupta said that a communication has been sent to the Governor highlighting intentional neglect of Jammu related issues by some corrupt officers in the State administration and a week’s ultimatum has been served for convening of a high-level meeting, failing which the Chamber and Civil Society shall be left with no option than to launch an agitation for justice. “We feel that present administration is hell bent on destroying the State with almost no accountability policy besides promoting corruption, which has never ever happened before under a Governor’s rule in the State,” said Rakesh Gupta. Gupta further said that tourism projects under Prime Ministers Development Package for J&K have been neglected resulting in lapse of huge funds. We would also question the intentions of State administration regarding ‘Zero Tourism Promotion’ policy, a glaring example of which was non-participation of J&K Tourism Department in the biggest travel event ‘The Great Indian Travel Bazar’, he added. Various other issues highlighted by the Chamber included toll tax at Lakhanpur, pending tourism projects of Jammu, dilapidated condition of National Highway, harassment of drivers and conductors of trucks and tankers by security agencies, ban on vehicular movement on National Highway, delay in payments to small scale industries by various Government Departments etc. The Chamber further demanded constitution of a Board on pattern of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for centuries-old Raghunath Mandir complex to restore its sanctity. Demanding immediate intervention of the Governor in aforesaid issues, the Chamber urged the Governor to convene a high-level meeting within one week, failing which the CCI and civil society shall launch an agitation, which shall not be in interest of the trouble-torn State.
