JAMMU: A day after Air India international flight was delayed at Mumbai Airport for 90 minutes to accommodate Principal Secretary to Maharashtra Chief Minister, a senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju got entangled into a huge controversy for deboarding three of a family of a serving armed forces officer from Delhi bound Air India flight at Leh Airport.
The Minister of State for Home and his aide decided to board the flight nearly 50 minutes before its take off, which left middle rung Leh police officers in tizzy. They rushed to the Airport and ensured boarding of VVIPs by deboarding three members of a family, including a child, who were on a trip to Leh while available Leave Travelling Concession (LTC).
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh was also scheduled to travel by this flight. However, he was booked in advance and had a valid boarding card.
Breaking the news about gross abuse of power by BJP leaders, the Newshour moderator on Times Now Arnab Goswami gave a vivid 45 second account of how the family was ‘thrown out of the plane’ to accommodate the VVIP and his aide. After getting exposed on a national television channel, the minister has reportedly been arguing to have the information about his travel from J&K Deputy Chief Minister. Is the VVIP suggesting that his boarding was facilitated by Leh police officers at the behest of Nirmal Singh? This controversy witnessed hot debate with BJP spokesperson at the receiving end of piercing comments by the other penalists.
The penalists were unanimous in seeking resignation of Rijiju or his sacking by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The Union Home Minister is currently on a two-day visit to Srinagar.
