STATE TIMES NEWS HIRANAGAR: Lambasting previous BJP-PDP coalition for neglecting people residing along International border, former Minister, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma on Tuesday said that previous Government completely failed to provide adequate compensation to victims of cross border firing despite promising the same. Addressing a meeting at border village Barnari here, Sharma further said, “More than 3000 ceasefire violations took place during last 5 years, resulting in martyrdom of a number of security personnel and loss of about 1400 civilians.” He further said that announcement to provide 3 per cent reservation to people residing along IB by present Government is an eye wash, as mere 3 per cent reservation will not address the problems of approximately 3 lakh souls residing in about 350 villages along IB. “In fact, the Government do not want to resolve basic issue of border people. If it was really serious about border dwellers, it should have bring them under RBA category, thereby opening doors of 20 per cent reservation benefit for border people. Moreover, no special recruitment drive was conducted for border youth thus adding to the woes of already suffering people,” he asserted. While addressing gathering, Vikramaditya Singh, Ex MLC, said, “False and fake propaganda of BJP stands exposed, as people residing along LOC and IB are still waiting for already-promised 5-marla plots at safer places. Kiths and kins of all those, who lost their lives in cross border firing, are still waiting for relief as neither they have been provided any job nor compensation by the Government.” Both the leaders urged people to support Congress for ensuring victory of party candidates in upcoming Parliamentary and Assembly elections. Once Congress comes back to power, the party will leave no stone unturned in resolving all burning issues of border residents on permanent basis, they maintained. Others who spoke on the occasion included Subash Gupta (ex MLC), Girdhari Lal Chalotra (ex MLA), Prem Lal (ex MLA), Ajeet Singh and Surinder Singh.
