STATE TIMES NEWS POONCH: Army distributed Solar Lights in the remote village Kalaban of Poonch District. Most of the villages in the higher reaches of the mountainous terrain have limited access to electricity and after sunset the area plunges into darkness. As a step to lighting up these remotely located villages, a total of 32 portable solar lights were distributed by Army to Gujjar and Bakkarwal families residing in village Kalaban. The initiative would facilitate elderly and women during night time and will also assist the students of these villages. The event was attended by large numbers of villagers and eminent persons of the area. Speaking on the occasion, Village Sarpanch applauded the initiative made by Army and opined that these lanterns have been given at the moment when the students are preparing for their board exams and these lights will assist them at this crucial juncture.
