Dear Editor, The unique more to protect and promote greater welfare of animals with ‘Live and Let Live’ motto is laudable. Stressing the need to show compassion towards all living creatures, the court has accorded the status of legal persons/entities to animals. Animals are legal persons with rights, but why is this verdict applicable only to Haryana and not Punjab? The same status should be granted to animals across India, with the same directions to all concerned. Even bullock-cart races held annually at Kila Raipur in Punjab should be banned. The bullocks are over-stressed for months together to prepare them for races which are cruel. Raj Kumar Kapoor, Ropar.
