JAMMU: Akhnoor and R S Pura Zones bagged the under-14 and under-17 kabaddi titles respectively in the two-day Inter-zonal district level girls competitions of Jammu District held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at MA Stadium, here on Sunday.
Akhnoor girls also excelled in Kho-Kho event taking away twin titles of under-14 and under-17 decided at Government High School Jammu Cantonment, here.
Earlier, in under-14 kabaddi final, Akhnoor girls trounced their counterparts from R S Pura Zone by 17 points. Semifinals: R S Pura beat Jammu by 20 pts; Akhnoor defeated Khour by 22 pts.
However, R S Pura girls compensated their loss in under-17 category defeating Jammu Zone by a wafer thin margin of one point. Semifinals: Jammu beat Akhnoor Zone by 12 pts; R S Pura trounced Marh Zone by nine pts.
VOLLEYBALL: The under-17 girls volleyball title went to Gandhi Nagar Zone, who beat Satwari Zone in straight sets. Earlier, in semifinals, decided today, Satwari beat Jammu Zone 2-0 and Gandhi Nagar trounced Akhnoor Zone 2-0.
KHO-KHO: In Kho-Kho, Akhnoor Zone girls emerged undisputed champions taking away both under-14 and under-17 titles. In under-14 final, Akhnoor beat Marh Zone while in under-17 category, Akhnoor defeated Bhalwal Zone.
The winners and runners-up teams received title trophies from District Sports Officer (DYSS), Chanchal Kour amidst appreciations for their mentors, trainers and institutions.
