JAMMU: The AIIMS Coordination Committee (AIIMS CC) that has been spearheading the agitation of setting up of the premier health institution in Jammu on Saturday held a ‘Lalkaar rally’ in which a large number of people from different walks of life participated.
The activists of AIIMS CC also held a protest outside the office of the State unit of BJP as they accused the saffron party of betraying the people of Jammu over the issue of AIIMS.
Heavy police deployment was made outside the BJP office which stopped the AIIMS CC activists from entering the party office.
“The Lalkaar rally started from near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh and it went through various parts of the city. The aim of the rally was to inform the people of Jammu about the betrayal of the BJP and to get support from them for the upcoming 72 hours of Jammu Bandh that will start on 31st July,” a spokesman of AIIMS CC said.
While congratulating the people of Jammu for making the Lalkaar rally a success, Chairman of AIIMS CC Abhinav Sharma said that he has no doubt that the committee will soon achieve a full-fledged AIIMS for Jammu.
Commenting on the participation of people from all walks of life in the rally, he said it should open the eyes of BJP leadership in the state.
“Any failure of the BJP to appreciate the nature of the rally and suspension of work in all the courts of the Jammu Province for a week would culminate in its political extinction in the region and harm the BJP at the national level,” Sharma said.
He said that the people of the region were feeling outraged and humiliated because of the shifting of the sanctioned AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir.
The PDP-BJP alliance is also being considered as the biggest betrayal to national interest, he said.
Sharma said that the people of Jammu region are fighting for their genuine rights and for protecting the national interests in the state. He reminded BJP MLAs Rajesh Gupta, Sat Sharma and Ravinder Raina that they had on 18th June promised that they would work with the AIIMS CC and fight for AIIMS for Jammu in case an appropriate order on the demand was not issued latest by 20th July and asked them to join the movement as promised.
“There is still time for the insensitive BJP leadership to read the writing on the wall and announce forthwith the promised AIIMS for Jammu. It would be in its own interest if the BJP announces AIIMS for Jammu before Jammu region observes three-day-long Bandh from 31st July,” he said.
Various constituents of the AIIMS CC participated in the rally which culminated near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh after travelling from various parts of the city.
Meanwhile, the chain hunger strike resumed by the AIIMS Coordination Committee (AIIMS CC) demanding setting up of an AIIMS here entered its fifth consecutive day on Saturday with 20 people taking their turn to sit for the protest.
