STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday intensified its protest against University of Jammu, seeking basic facilities for students. Led by Ajay Thakur, Jammu University Vice President ABVP, a number of students from various departments as well as activists assembled outside the office of Dean Students Welfare and gheraoed the Dean.
Addressing media persons here, Ajay Thakur, ABVP JU Vice President said that the University failed to address demands of students, due to which students are being forced to come out of their classes to raise their demands. He said that ABVP has been fighting for rights of students for last many days but still the university authority has not responded to any of the highlighted issues. He further said that the wall of heroes should be established in Jammu University but the university has no interest in that. “Jammu University has restored internet services but Wifi fee has not been refunded yet, Smart Card fee has also not been refunded. Hostel has not yet been allotted to all girl students while several other demands are still unheard,” he said. Ajay Lakhotra, Joint Secretary ABVP JU said that law school students have been denied access to Internet services and no smart card has been issued to them. “The university have already charged fee for the same but facilities have not yet been provided to students,” Chetan Magotra Joint Secretary ABVP JU said, demanding proper transportation facilities for students. Later, Prof Jasbir Singh, Dean of Students Welfare, while addressing the students, assured that all their genuine demands would be resolved at the earliest. Meanwhile, ABVP Jammu Mahanagar also staged protest against the Cluster University administration demanding postponement of date-sheet of all semesters of UG courses. Students from various colleges of Cluster University led by City Secretary Parteek Raina, Akash Bhagat from MAM College, Nikhil Parihar from GGM Science College, Sunaksh Gupta from Commerce College and Yashaswani Rajwal from Gandhi Nagar College gathered outside MAM College and marched towards the office of Divisional Commissioner. Sunaksh said that Cluster University has announced date of external exams without fulfilling norms and guidelines of semester system, which is sheer violation of UGC guidelines. Akash Bhagat said that University administration is playing with future of students as the syllabus has not been completed yet and authorities are conducting exams without caring about students. ABVP sought postponement of exams till minimum number of lectures, as per guidelines, is not delivered by the University. Others present in the protest included Rahul Sharma, Tandeep Singh, Sajan Kumar, Shubham, Gourav Sharma, Piyush Raina, Rajit Rajput and Sumedha Arora.
