Mohd. YaseenJammu is already fighting for the existence of its language and the fate of the language is in the hands of government but Department of Tourism, is a mammoth example that they have not only suppressed the language, but also played a vital role in dislodging the culture, traditions and the language. Recently, the way Department showcased the face of Jammu was totally unacceptable for the folks of Jammu. How one could digest the contention on themselves when they are not what they were projected. Department of Tourism must understand the fact that, to organise a major event is not a cup of their tea as it was easily founded in the three days of the event. What they have gained after three days of an event in which the major attraction was Abha Hanjura and Sharry Maan. People are very gnashing their teeths for the way Jammu Tourism has promoted the rich cultural heritage of Jammu region which is already been crying for its existence. The history is the witness to the facts that Dogras have always been victimized by the politicians and the popular governments and such adverse agenda of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism will ruin the Dogri language and its culture. One must understand the fact that without engraving and promoting the cultural ethos of the Jammu region, we cannot promote its culture and tourism. One day such acts will take us nowhere and will have identity crises of Dogras because of these misadventures of Government. Tu Loung Te Mai Laachi, Tere Picche Haan Gwaachi, Dil Taan Pata Ni Tera Keho Jeha Hona, Mai Ta Mukhda Dekhke Marr Gya Ni and many more punjabi pop songs has been played by department of Tourism to showcase rich cultural heritage of Jammu region. Social media has been taken by a storm by the Jammuites against the Department of Tourism in which the department has not only neglected the traditional art forms but also created a major resentment among the people of Jammu Region. It is pertinent to mention here that it was a well planned strategy to play with the sentiments of Dogras which will soon lost in the tides of times which have always been taken non-seriously by the politicians and the government.
Our so called leaders who never miss an opportunity to glorify themselves on any stage missed the chance to raise the voice of Dogras. Everybody was aware of the misdoings but the local leaders who always make the mammoth claims for the promotion and preservation of highly rich culture heritage of Jammu region. The culture of Jammu is being highjacked, eroded and finally invaded by the outsiders but nobody come out of their shells and took any painstaking effort to fight against these kinds of happenings. Manu Khajuria, the founder of Voice of Dogras and a freelance writer while sharing her concern shares that the Jammu Mahotsav in true spirit should be grand showcase of the cultural heritage of Jammu region but unfortunately like every year Jammu Mahotsav made a mockery of what Jammu and its people. What should have been a grand cultural event looked like a half hearted attempt to promote the culture of Jammu. The way festival was promoted and the hoardings especially made it look more like a pop concert with no bearing with the rick folk traditions of Jammu be it a Dogri, Gojri or Pahari. The resentment of the people against such shoddy attempts is discernible and I hope it will be taken into account and course corrections be done well on time. I am glad that Department of Tourism is running Jammu Mahotsav every year but unfortunately the prominence which Dogri language, Dogra Culture and Dogra artists needs, never get its due share. If Jammu Mahotsav was a Dugger Festival, and everyone must underline the fact that the Jammu is a diverse area in which the dominant language is Dogri. The first preference would have been of the Dogra Music, Dogra Cultre and tradition, singers and background in which they would have given facilities, platform to showcase the rich culture heritage of Jammu region. The officials of Department of Tourism are not experts and are not able to decide, what have to be projected. There should be a advisory committee in which people from different fields who are into literature, culture, history etc should be asked for their advises so as the festival like Jammu Mahotsav could get more share of Jammu instead of other places opined by President Dogra Prof. Lalit Mangotra-A Sahitya Akademi Awardee. The dominant language of Jammu region is ‘Dogri’ which was recognized in 8th schedule of Indian Constitution on 22nd of December, 2003 in which lots of efforts have been made by the stalwarts of Jammu who took Dogri to the International heights. It was the matter of pride for the people of Jammu who stood there till the happy moment have come but who is responsible for the extinction of the language! It is a set perspective of Department of Tourism to have an event without taking eminent people of Jammu into consideration and it is a need of an hour for the department of tourism to wake up and have a look what they have done with the people of Jammu. Department of Tourism has damaged the ethnicity and they gave so many scars to the folks of Jammu and Jammu will always remember them as a damaging mangers. Prominent Producer/ Director, Maloop Singh shares, just look at the volume of culture and tradition of Jammu region but the way tourism projected the culture was a biggest example of mediocrity. Not even single traditional artists were engaged for Jammu Mahotsav giving traditional groups tagging them as opportunists. One can easily feel down when their work is showcasing without their presence and the legacies which the people of Jammu has carried forward to promote and preserve the rich culture heritage are down into tears and this kind of things can never take the legacies to the next level of perfection. Every year Tourism does a festival in Jammu with the budget in crores and like every year they do a formality putting the money of taxpayers in vain. Honorable Governor should intervene in the matter and put a full-stop to this major conspiracy against Dogri language and Culture. The variegated variety of Jammu region is not restricted to Jammu only, the districts comes under the jurisdiction of Jammu region also need to get promoted. Who knows what one can get in remotest area of Dacchan of district Kishtwar or the Mankote of district Poonch. The events like Jammu Mahotsav are meant for the showcasing of the legacies carried on by one generation to another but instead of promoting the language is a big way, Tourism preferred to give platform of high class to the singers who have already been getting hell of fees from the concerts either in India or outside India. The money which Department of Tourism has thrown on them was just for their self glorifications for which they can tell people that it would not been possible to let celebrated singers to come to Jammu for a Jammuite. Department of Tourism should stop obliging anti-Jammu lobby sitting in the government and come forward for the preservation and promotion of its own region which will be welcomed by each and every folk residing in Jammu region. The practices of Dogra Culture and tradition are in a threat today and instead of to be a part of it, Department of Tourism should find the ways to tackle with these kinds of growing issues.
