KATHUA/ UDHAMPUR: Continuing their drive to curb menace of polythene bags and to carry forward Swach Bharat Abhayan Mission of Govt of India, N.K Chandan Block Development Officer, Keerian Gandyal along with Mohinder Kumar AE and concerned officials of block office conducted surprise check of the shops of Panchayats falling under the block and seized approximately 80-90 Kgs of polythene. The team warned shopkeepers that in future they will be charged penalty by BDO office on use of polythene in Panchayats.
During the visit, BDO Keerian Gandyal made the various shopkeepers aware regarding the ill effects of polythene on the environment and appealed to make people aware regarding ban on use of polythene in their respective areas to make panchayats polythene free. Meanwhile, on the direction of District administration Udhampur, BDO Pardeep Singh along with team of Rural Development Department (RDD) launched massive anti-polythene drive at village Phanyat Rount, Tirshi, Gandala, Naroot and its adjoining areas under Swatch Bhart Abhiyan Scheme and seized polythene chunks of bags from different shopkeepers.
