JAMMU: ‘Habitual’ Income Tax defaulter property dealer Rajan Dutta, son of National Conference leader Vijay Laxmi Dutta was on Thursday, booked Income Tax Department, gave slip to sleuths and managed to flee from his residence.
The Tax Recovery Officer issued arrest warrants against him. However, Rajan Dutta managed to flee when joint team of IT sleuths and police conducted a raid at his residence cum office near Paloura on Jammu-Akhnoor Highway.
J&K Principal Commissioner of Income Tax R N Sahay told STATE TIMES that arrest warrants have been issued against Rajan Dutta, who he described, as a defaulter.
However, late in the evening, the arrest warrants against Rajan Dutta were put in abeyance, as his lawyer deposited Rs 10 lakh out of Rs 68 lakh recovery amount, Sahay said, adding that the defaulter has given an undertaking to deposit the remaining amount before March 31, 2018,” said Sahay.
“We are going to take similar action against defaulters in J&K,” IT Principal Commissioner said, adding that there are other habitual defaulters in the State and we are going to take strict action against them.”
