JAMMU: With prominent wrestlers from all over the North Indian state arriving to contest for the top bouts, the Second Jhiri Kesari Indian Style Dangal is all set to attract a big crowd at Devsthan Jhiri, 14 kilometers on Jammu-Akhnoor road, on 23rd April.
To give feel of a national level event, the organisers, J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association and Jhiri Dangal Committee, have decided to hold competition in women section too by offering attractive cash prizes including that of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs one lakh for winner and runners-up.
“No doubt, the women wrestlers shall be seen for the first time in any Dangal on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir, the most attractive part would be the challenging bout between Neha Tomar of Uttrakhand and a male wrestler. The event shall cost the organising committee Rs 9 lakh,” said President of J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma while divulging the details to media, here on Thursday.
Being organised in connection with Baisakhi festival, the competition shall be held among 62 wrestlers from Delhi, Haryana, Uttarkhand, Punjab, Chandigarh and hosts J and K.
The mega event shall be declared open by former Minister and MLA Marh, Sukhnadan Choudhary, who has consented to be the Chief Guest. Commissioner-Secretary Co-operatives, Nirmal Sharma, District Development Commissioner Reasi, Ravinder Kumar and Secretary J and K State Sports Council, Waheed-Ur-Rehman Parra shall be Guests of Honour.
To give this Dangal a national look, the organisers have invited some outstanding wrestlers of national and international repute. They are former National chief women coach, Sohan Singh; Ashok Kumar (Arjun Awardee); Ashok Dhaka (International Referee); Gurmeet Singh (International Referee); Kulwinder (NIS wrestling coach), Gurpreet Kour and Mulkh Raj Sharma (NIS wrestling coach).
“Joginder Kumar of India having to his credit seven times Hind Kesari, 24 Times Bharat Kesari, two time National Champion, silver medal in Commonwealth Games and gold medal in Junior Asian Games, World cadet gold medalist will take on Sabba Patha Padarth Pahelwan of Kohali, Amritsar (Punjab) under the weight category of 120 kg bout,” informed Sharma.
Women participants: Neha Tomar and Ruby (Uttarkhand), Preet (Gurdasspur), Yashpreet Kour (Sangror), Kuldeep Kour and Navjeet Kour (Moga), Preeti (Rohtak), Poonam (Hissar), Mosmee Choudhery and Ravika of (Pathankot), Priya Sharma, Sanjana Sharma, Neegita Kumari, Neha Kumari and Tahmee Bhat (Reasi).
