TSEWANG RIGZIN LEH: Skabje Choskyong Palga Rinpoche inaugurated the 23rd Sindhu Darshan Festival at Sindhu Ghat Shey in Leh on Monday in presence of hundreds of devotees coming from different parts of the country. The three-day Sindhu Darshan Utsav, being organised by Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti and Ladakh Phanday Tsogspa, began with offering prayers to the Indus River. Devotees also offered prayers to the river and took holy dips in the river. Speaking on the occasion, Skabje Choskyong Palga Rinpoche said that humanity, respect and compassion are some of the core values of all religions although there may be different ways of offering prayers. However, he lamented that due to the absence of such values, violence and terrorism are often reported in different parts of the world and in India in the name of religion. Dy Chairman LAHDC, Leh Gyal P. Wangyal congratulated the Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti for the progress that the festival has seen every passing year. He said the festival is also helping promote Ladakh as a tourists’ destination. Wamgyal congratulated all ‘yartis’ devotees coming from different parts of the country for taking part in this festival. President Anjuman Mon- ul -Islam Dr Abdul Qayum also spoke on the occasion. Chief Patron & Margdarshak Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti Indresh Kumar, who is a Sr. Pracharak and member of the national working committee of the RSS, said that in the year 2021, the 25th Sindhu Darshan festival will be celebrated at a grand scale with thousands devotees from different parts of the country. A colourful cultural programme depicting cultural diversity of India was performed by cultural troupes from different parts of the country. Every the year festival is celebrated as a symbol of multidimensional cultural identity of India that got its name from the River Indus called ‘Singhey Khababs’ in Ladakhi. Sindhu Darshan was first started in 1997 with the aim to promote national integration and celebrate unity in diversity. In 2006 LAHDC, Leh, in consultation with the state and the centre governments brought slight modification with name of the festival. It was renamed as ‘Ladakh Singhey Khabas Festival (Sindhu Darshan)’. In protest against the change with the name of the festival, Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti started organising its own Sindhu Darshan every year parallel to the one celebrated officially. The official festival ‘Ladakh Singhey Khabas Festival (Sindhu Darshan)’is all set to take place on the 28th of this month.
