STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul on Tuesday awarded 10 years imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to Zaffer Iqbal alias Umar alias Abdul Rehman, son of Mohammad Yousaf, resident of Trarkhal, Tehsil and District Palendri, PoK in the much publicised Janipur Terrorist Attack case.According to the police case, on August 11, 2007 at about 3 AM, a team of Delhi Police and Special Branch of J&K Police cordoned the house of one Abdul Rehman, son of Mohammad Asgar at Ramzanpura, Janipur Jammu in order to effect arrest of a terrorist namely Saifullah Kari, who was involved in FIR No. 122/2005 of Police Station Special Cell, Delhi. However the terrorist, who was accompanied by another terrorist Zaffer Iqbal while opening fire from an automatic weapon from inside the house attempted to flee from backside of the house. The police party returned the fire and as a result Saifullah Kari died on the spot and the other accused sustained injuries. Sub Inspector Davinder Sharma of Delhi police also sustained injuries due to firing by the terrorists. The incident led to registration of offences under Sections 7/25 Arms Act, 121-A, 120-B and 307 RPC and 4/5 E.S. Act vide FIR No. 103/2007 with Police Station Janipur. After hearing Public Prosecutor Rakesh Badyal for the State, the court observed that the accused Zaffer Iqbal was apprehended on August 11, 2007 and considering the circumstances of the case, he is sentenced to undergo imprisonment for a period of 10 years and shall also be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000 for offence under Section 307 RPC and in case of default to pay the fine, he shall further undergo imprisonment for a period of three months. He is also sentenced to undergo imprisonment for a period of six months and shall also be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 1000 for offence under Section 120-B RPC and in case of default to pay the fine, he shall further undergo imprisonment for a period of one month.
